Rights and Responsibilities:

Jarrah House aims to deliver the highest possible standard of care. As a client at Jarrah House you have certain rights and responsibilites. Many of these rights are protected by law.

Your Rights

Standard of Care

You have a right to expect certain standards in your care, such as:

  • Access to qualified personell and competant care.
  • To be treated with dignity, respect and courtesy.
  • To be treated in privacy.
  • Your health and personal details are to be kept confidential unless the law allows that information to be given to some other person.
  • To know the identity, professional status and qualifications of the staff providing care, and to know who your two case managers are.
  • Services that are free of physical and mental abuse, coercion, arrassment, including conduct of a sexual nature and discrimination on the grounds of age, race, maritial and family status, sexual orientation or disability.
  • Service that takes into account cultural, religious, social and ethical needs, values and beliefs.
  • You are entitled to receive clear information from the staff about your condition, treatment, and possible risks.
  • You are entitled to apply for a copy of your file under the Freedom of Information Act (see Privacy Policy).
  • To be made aware of the policies and guidelines of Jarrah House.

Your right to comment

The staff and management of Jarrah House are committed to meeting your health needs. If you have a concern or complaint about our service you are encouraged to speak with the Manager about it. Any complaint, written or verbal, will be dealt with fairly and professionally and will not adversely affect the service you receive.

Your child

Parents may exercise any of the above rights on behalf of their child.

Your Responsibilities

Your good health care is best achieved through an active and positive partnership with the staff at Jarrah House.

It is your responsibility to:

  • Honestly inform staff regarding your drug and alcohol, medical and mental health history so that you can receive the best outcome in your treatment.
  • To actively participate in your case management, including a discharge plan, developed collaboratively with your case manager.
  • Explain to the staff any issues which make it difficult for you to have the recommended treatment.
  • Be considerate and respectful towards other clients and our staff.
  • Attend all group and counselling sessions. Advise staff concerned if you are not able to attend.
  • Comply with the organisation's occupational health and safety practices.
  • To comply with the policies and guidelines for residents of Jarrah House.
  • Please let the staff know if you are not going to follow your recommeded discharge plan and accept responsibility for this decision.
  • To inform staff if you are aware of any breach of these rights and responsibilities by any other client.
